The Rules of Baccarat
With little to do each deal other than laying a bet on a tie, the banker or players hand, baccarat is easy to play. Neither the player or the banker have any decisions to make, as the rules decide what happens next.
The aim of the game is to get closer to nine with your hand count then the dealer does..
A hand can not bust as in Blackjack. That’s because 10 is subtracted from the count when it goes over 10. To provide an example, a 9 and a 7 totals 16, which equals 6 after 10 is removed.
To begin, each participant decides where to wager, then both the player(s) as well as the dealer get two cards.
If either hand is a hand total of eight or nine it is known as a “Natural”, the hand wins and the hand is finished. When both hands total an 8 or 9, that is a draw.
If neither the player or banker is dealt a ‘natural’ following the opening deal, what happens next depends on their hand totals.
First the player is addressed.
| The Players Hand Is: | The Dealers Hand Is: |
|---|---|
| 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 | Draw a card |
| 6, 7 | Stays |
Once the players cards have been dealt, the bankers actions are based off the players hand.
| Bankers Required Action: | ||
|---|---|---|
| 0, 1 or 2 | Anything | Draws a card |
| 3 | 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 | Draw a card |
| 8 | Stay | |
| 9 | No further cards | |
| 4 | 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 | Draw a card |
| 0, 1, 8 or 9 | Stay | |
| 5 | 5, 6 or 7 | Draws a card |
| 0, 1, 2, 3, 8 or 9 | Stay | |
| 4 | Takes a card | |
| 6 | 6 or 7 | Draw a card |
| 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 or 9 | No further cards | |
| 7 | Anything | No further cards |
After the deal is complete, the hand with a value closest to 9 wins the round.
